We’re excited to let you know that renovation works at The Roxy are now officially underway. If you’ve passed by recently, you might have seen contractors arriving on site. This is the beginning of a major transformation, funded through the Borderlands Place Programme, which will help us reimagine the building for the future while preserving everything that makes it special.

We’re working closely with two brilliant Cumbria-based teams, BYWATER + TWEEDALE Architects and Grove Design. Their creative vision and local insight are helping us shape the next chapter of The Roxy as a vibrant space for film, culture, creativity, and community.

This new phase builds on what we’ve already achieved. Over the past year, we completed vital roof and structural repairs, refreshed the exterior, and installed solar panels as part of our push toward sustainability. With this new round of funding, we’re now able to open up the foyer to create an improved Visitor Information Point for Ulverston, bring more rooms into public use, and continue making the building warmer, greener, safer, and more welcoming for everyone. And we have heard you – accessibility is still at the forefront of everything we want to achieve with the building. Please be patient with us! The Roxy is a beloved building. There’s a lot that needs to be done behind the scenes to address the access issues and we are doing everything we can to take all the incredible feedback we’re getting on board.

To everyone who has supported us so far, thank you. Your donations, time, encouragement, and belief in what The Roxy can be have made this possible. This building has always been shaped by the people who love it, and we’re proud to be taking this next step with you.

We’ll be holding a public open evening soon to share more about the plans and hear your thoughts. Keep an eye on our website and social media for the date.

In the meantime, we’re open as usual. The Roxy Cinema is still the best place to see the latest films, the Laurel and Hardy Museum is open and ready to welcome you to the home of Ulverston’s iconic duo, and U-Gym is busy as ever. So please keep coming by. The Roxy is still here for you, and we can’t wait to show you what’s next.
